Ian-Van-Coller-Exhibition-Kilimanjaro.jpg

Exhibiting at Schneider Gallery:  770 N. LaSalle Dr. #401 | Chicago, IL 60654

Exhibition Dates:  May 5 – July 1, 2017

Artist’s Reception & Page-through: Friday, May 5 | 5:00 - 7:30 pm

Van Coller has accompanied climate change researchers on expeditions to study tropical glaciers.  Defined by latitude, most tropical glaciers will be extinct within the next decade.  Centerpiece of the exhibition is an oversized artist's book, Kilimanjaro: The Last Glacier; it features landscapes & portraits of porters.  Scale aligns the book with its subject, and recalls ledgers & atlases, thus conjuring themes of archiving, mapping, & exploration.

Carry Me Ohio | Exhibition by Matt Eich

Exhibition Dates:  September 14 – November 30

Artist’s Reception & Book Signing:  Saturday, October 22 | 6:00 – 8:00 pm

The work of this emerging artist is both intimate and gruff.  It carries a visceral immediacy.  We feel these places, we don’t just see them through the Artist’s lens, and that is what makes them most uncomfortable- we are implicated by work that depicts a vision of American we may not like to think about, much less see.

Sheila With Red Hair | Exhibition by Marjorie Salvaterra

Sheila Goes to Market

Sheila Goes to Market

Exhibition Dates:   June 11 – August 13, 2016

Artist's Reception: Saturday, June 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm | RSVP requested

Marjorie Salvaterra’s work is surreal.  It is humorous; it is dark, and it unfolds like stills in a series on women under the stress of “supposed to be.” Sheila With Red Hair is about the pressure women put on their selves and each other; it is about the emotional toll of maintaining the straight-seamed, buttoned-up life in a “traditional American household.”  This photographic artwork is about cracking.  Salvaterra’s Sheila’s expose the emotional cost of appearing perfect.

Revising History | Exhibition by Jennifer Greenburg

EXHIBITION DATES:  MARCH 19 - MAY 28, 2016

ARTIST'S OPENING RECEPTION:  SATURDAY, MARCH 19 |  6-8 PM | RSVP REQUIRED.

A city-kid from Chicago Jennifer Greenburg reveals the grit behind the glitter.  She always knew she was an artist.  She just did.  As such, she has certain obligations- it is her job to record and reveal.  Greenburg is an observer, a collector, and was a documentarian before she became disillusioned by the form.  Everything in her life has led up to this- Revising History.  The ongoing series is refining; this is the artist’s second solo show of the work at the Gallery.  It is decidedly darker than earlier work, though it all belongs to the same creative body.

Exhibition Dates:  December 12 - February 27, 2016

Pages :  Artists' Books | Publications | Related Works is a group show that features artist’s books and publications alongside a selection of editioned photographic prints they contain.  Included in Pages are artist’s books by Paul Turounet and Ian van Coller, and recent publications by Jennifer Greenburg and Guillermo Srodek-Hart.

Books are traditional vehicles for artistic expression; they are intimate and implicative.  Our viewing is dependent on our engagement- it is only our turning of the pages that activates them.  This physicality helps us connect to the artists’ intention in a special way.  Artist’s books are arguably among the most critically curated viewing experience an artist can offer, as the viewing-order is both calculated and fixed.  Publications are major honors for artists; they collate bodies of work, often drawing a whole oeuvre together into one object.  This exhibition celebrates both artists books and publications.
