Congratulations to Luis González Palma who was awarded the IIX Premio Bienal Internacional de Fotografía Contemporánea Pilar Citoler | Pilar Citoler International Biennial Prize for Contemporary Photography (PBIFCPC). The honor recognizes the professional career of an active visual artists of any nationality. The PBIFCPC makes its selection based on the artist’s place in the discourse of contemporary photography. Financial support is accompanied by an exhibition and monograph on the artist’s career.
Untitled, the work selected as the winning piece, belongs to the Möbius series. In the work, the artist experiments with realism and abstraction. The portrait is an interweaving of photographs- fragments of portraits of different figures reconfigured in sheer, overlapping layers. Drop shaped red glass beads seam a center-line and plunge to the floor, and strands of red thread also hang loosely from the photographic object. The work is conceived from a desire for the image to contain and in some ways express the invisible. Transparency, visual halos, revelation and obstruction are at play. González Palma’s Möbius is illusive, convincing, believable, yet ungraspable. To engage the work is like a game of configuration.
In accordance with the award, González Palma will present Los latidos del silencio (The beats of silence) at the University of Córdoba from September 9 - November 30, 2025. The exhibition is organized in conjunction with UCOCultura.
The 2025 PBIFCPC jury was composed of collector Pilar Citoler; Paula Anta, winner of the previous edition; Ángel Marcos, photographer who created the image for the 12th edition; Alejandro Castellote, art curator; Isabel Muñoz, photographer, among others.
