About Thomas Kellner
German artist and photographer Thomas Kellner's main interest has always worked in experimental and conceptual photography. He experimented with different processes, including pinhole cameras, photograms, cyanotypes, salt paper prints and others as he sought his own contemporary visual voice.
In 1997, Kellner started working with the negatives themselves to create fine art. He began making prints from contact sheets, and composing work with the reel of film. His lens turned to architectural icons; his images deconstruct them. Kellner has since photographed famous monuments and interiors around the world. These images challenge usual perspectives. The frames dance and play, push and pull. Our eyes seek to recreate the whole as much as engage the detail in every individual frame. Kellner’s works featured here are from a black and white series executed between 1997 - 2005.
