Liza Faktor - Another Place to Live

Russian-born creative, Liza Faktor has worked as an artist, curator, and producer. Were we to boil-down the essence of her practice, we may say Faktor is a facilitator of narrative, a transporter of psyche. Through her work we find instinctive connection to the subject, however fugitive. We exist in these moments with and through her. Life cannot stand still, but a frame in time can last forever.

Liza Faktor’s photographic work carries aspects of classical and contemporary vision. There is a crisp painterly quality to her frames that roots them to a historic tone. It may be her sense of light or palate, more likely it is the tableau like nature of this work, particularly the landscapes, that make them feel so grand. Her images are grounded, too. This sensation is often accomplished through a sense of quiet intimacy. Through Faktor’s eyes, we feel an urgent, almost mythological connection to the world.

Selected works are from Another place to live from the early to mid 2000’s are panoramic-style shots from around the globe. The wide-view stretches vision, drawing it out almost as if it were to encircle us. Immersed in the scene we feel opposing senses: belonging and longing. There is a spiritual idealism in these places we cannot deny. They feel enchanted and welcoming, yet haunted by what is not there. We struggle to put our finger on this sensation. It feels tangled. We wish we could linger forever, and we wonder what lies over the next horizon. As we feel a rush of wanderlust, so too do we pause in a breath of contemplation over what we have left behind.
